HIPPICA is about the horses of the book. Krzysztof Dorohostajski
THE BOOK IS IN POLISH
Reprint of the original edition from 1620. A practical work on horse breeding, for the landowner and the soldier in the field. The author, attaching importance to careful graphic design, ordered copperplate illustrations from the famous Radziwiłł engraver, Tomasz Makowski, thus supporting local works. This graphic designer made in Nieśwież, based on his own drawings, a title page and 44 boards, including 24 boards depicting figures of horses against the background of landscapes. The latter engravings are copies of engravings from the series Equile Joannis Austriaci Caroli V Imp. Makowski's other copperplate engravings depicted landscapes and castles. Hippika, varied with quoted poems by Virgil, contained first-class information about horse breeding and for many years was the most popular textbook in this field, overtaking Krzysztof Pieniążek's competitive Hippika from 1607.
Krzysztof Mikołaj Dorohostajski of the Leliwa coat of arms, surnamed Monwid (1562 - 1615), Grand Marshal of Lithuania, lord of Dorohostajy in Volhynia and Ashmyanie Murowana in the Vilnius Voivodeship, friendly with the Radziwiłł family, was a well-known figure both at the royal court and among his nobility brothers.
